Welcome to Fort Hunt

Welcome to Fort Hunt - a suburban neighborhood located just 14 miles south of Washington, DC in Alexandria, VA (Fairfax County). The Fort Hunt neighborhood was recently described in a Washington Post article as a “50’s suburban dream”. The features and history that make this area so unique include Fort Hunt Park - a 136-acre National Park including pavilions, a bike and walking trail, volleyball courts, woods, open fields for sports and the historic Fort, built during the Spanish-American war. The area is also buffered by the scenic GW Parkway - mature trees surround you on both sides, views of bikers and walkers enjoying the Mount Vernon Trail and breathtaking views of the Potomac River. The hub of Fort Hunt is the charming Hollin Hall Shopping Center, built in 1958 and full of locally owned businesses like the 5&dime style Variety Store and the family-owned Village Hardware store founded in 1979.

4 different recreation associations, each with a pool, tennis courts and playgrounds are woven into the neighborhoods. These associations make up the social life and community gathering places for the community. During summers you can find swim meets, tennis matches, food trucks and other community social events held at one of the 4 associations. In addition, the close proximity to 3 different elementary schools and the local middle school provide additional opportunities for community gathering.

Fort Hunt is home to Fort Hunt Elementary School – one of just 2 Spanish World Language Immersion schools in Fairfax County, Stratford Landing Elementary School, Waynewood Elementary School and Carl Sandburg Middle School. The Potomac River, with a picnic area and views of Mount Vernon is just 1 mile away. And while it’s easy to forget you are just 14 miles from Washington, DC, the 11Y bus to downtown DC just steps away, only 10 miles to Reagan National Airport and Fort Belvoir and just 2 miles from George Washington's Mount Vernon.
