Waynewood is a lovely neighborhood within Fort Hunt consisting of nearly 750 split level, rambler, colonial and split foyer style homes, as well as some new construction. This community which opened in 1957, has a large recreation area near the center run by the Waynewood Recreation Association as well as close proximity to Fort Hunt Park. Located along the George Washington Parkway there is easy access to the Mount Vernon trail for jogging, biking, walking, etc. Waynewood has an active citizens association which is optional to join as well as the recreational facilities. Homes in Waynewood are zoned for Waynewood Elementary School, Carl Sandburg Middle School, and West Potomac High School.
